Drop Stop Review: The Original Car Seat Gap Filler

You're driving along when you hear your phone ring. You reach into the seat next to you, where your phone rides when you don't have a passenger riding shotgun. You can't feel it, and you hear it continue to ring in desperation. Your phone has fallen into the no-man's-land called “between the seats,” which may as well be the type of super-sargasso-sea into which the missing sock of the pair disappears into. We're doing this Drop Stop review because we're tired of losing our stuff, and the Drop Stop could be the best way to fix the problem.

A Drop Stop acts like a lineman preventing objects from being gobbled up by the impossible to reach parts of your vehicle. Why do they even design cars with so many gaps and crevices? The Drop Stop is much more than just a stopper to stopgap a gap as we will see. Nor is it the only vehicle crevice management system on the market.

In this Drop Stop review, we hope to provide you with all the data you need to make an informed decision about which sort of drop-stopping solution fits your vehicle and your budget. We love the Drop Stop, but found it necessary to compare this product with the top products in its class to find out if it really is worth the price.

How We Reviewed

We have scoured the internet for products that could compete with the Drop Stop in both functionality and price point. We narrowed that list down to a slim shortlist of three competitors to the Drop Stop. We then scored each of these competitors across the criteria of features, price, ease of use, and design quality.

We even provided links to where you can buy each of these competitors if you become convinced that they offer better services than the Drop Stop for a better price. We will dive into these scores in a moment, but the first step in our Drop Stop Review is to discuss the Drop Stop itself.

What Is the Drop Stop?

The company behind Drop Stop loves to brag that they are the only vehicular crevice management system that provides 100% gap coverage. Others can avoid drops in certain areas, but only the Drop Stop provides coverage in front of, on all sides of, and behind the seat belt. Thankfully, the whole device moves with the seat so you don't have to reinstall it or even readjust it when you need to move your seat.

You might have seen the Drop Stop on the American entrepreneurial reality show Shark Tank. Many good ideas go before the “Sharks” to die in Shark Tank. Only truly exceptional products make it out with funding. The Drop Stop is one such product, and fortunately many of their consumers report that the Drop Stop works for a long, long time without deteriorating.

You actually get two Drop Stops when you buy this product, meaning that your driver's side and your passenger's side are totally covered. We were impressed in our Drop Stop review process with just how many types of vehicles the Drop Stop could adapt itself to.

Trucks, SUVs, sedans, coupes, sports roadsters, utes, and lorries all had their gaps pleasantly stoppered up by the Drop Stop. If you have a console and a chair with a gap in between, odds are that the Drop Stop will work for you.

The Drop Stop is like the Model T; it comes in black or black. However, when you think about it, no matter what color your interior is, the gaps are almost always shadowed. That means that the black of the Drop Stop will blend in perfectly with the gaps in your interior. The next step in our Drop Stop review is to check out its specs.

 Drop Stop Review: Product Specs

The Drop Stop is composed of high grade neoprene that can contract or expand to the exact proportions of the gap in your car. The black high grade neoprene does an incredible job of blending in with the gaps of nearly every type of vehicle and interior design job.

The package in which comes the Drop Stop also contains some goodies. You not only get the driver side and passenger side Drop Stops, you also receive a Slide Free Pad and an LED Credit Card Light.

The Slide Free Pad allows you to have a space in your vehicle where objects like phones and change and other free-wheeling prone items can ride without sliding around. The LED Credit Card Light fits easily in your wallet, yet produces a bright light. This bonus item is perfect for fishing the old fries, loose change, pens and whatever else has fallen in between your seats before installing the Drop Stop.

The set weighs only 12.8 ounces and measures 17.9 x 5 x 2.6 inches. Keep in mind that the high grade neoprene allows these dimensions to be highly fluid and the Drop Stop can fit into nearly any potential drop.

 Pricing

The Drop Stop can be purchased for about $$. Keep in mind that this price includes a second drop stop (there is little point in owning just one if you ever have passengers in your car), a Slide Free Pad and an LED Credit Card Light.

Its competition usually tries to aim for this price point as well. However, the features and bonus items they offer tend to constitute a worse deal than what you can get with the name brand Drop Stop manufactured by Drop Stop LLC.

Ease of Use 5 Stars

If there is an easier vehicular crevice management system out there, we could not find it. The neoprene adapts to any seat crevice, and the dark color looks like most shadows in most cars.

This is the vehicle equivalent of “plug and play” except there is nothing to plug in and no program to run. Simply jam it into the void where you've lost a whole potato's worth of fries and your dropping problems are gone.

Design Quality 5 Stars

We have been highly disappointed with the poor quality and low longevity of certain types of neoprene in the past. You have likely seen the way that old wetsuits get torn up. Low quality neoprene disintegrates in this way.

Fortunately, this was not the case as we did our research for this Drop Stop review. Its neoprene was high quality. The Drop Stop lasted a long while and we are confident giving it five stars in this category. The same could not be said of all its competitors.

Lebogner Gap Filler

The Lebogner Gap Filler advertises itself as a premium “drop caddy.” You can already tell that the company is a latecomer to the crevice management solution offered by Drop Stop based on this name. Calling your product a “drop caddy” just screams that you are attempting to follow the first comer on the market and that you no longer have access to a proprietary name such as “Drop Stop.”

That said, the Lebogner Gap Filler does ask about five dollars less than the price point for the Drop Stop. Like the Drop Stop, this price is what they ask for a two pack, so at least you don't have to buy two Lebogner Gap Fillers.

There are great features about the Lobogner Gap Filler, despite its less-than-top banana status, however. For one, it does do a nice job organizing your items in between your seat. This is of course a secondary feature of a “drop caddy,” but you will find yourself filling these filled gaps with your odds and ends.

In fact, the Lobogner Gap Filler is designed to include a practical storage pocket within reach to keep items from falling down from the seat gap. Lobogner's drop caddy includes velcro straps that help their product stay in place even when you are moving your seat. Like the Drop Caddy, it comes in black, which works well with a lot of vehicles.

The construction of the Lobogner Gap Filler is a high quality PU leather material. It looks good and boasts a super long lifespan. This material is even water-resistant so you do not have to worry about spills.

You can install the whole device in a matter of thirty seconds.

Ease of Use 4 Stars

The Lebogner Gap Filler can be installed to full functionality in just thirty seconds. This is slightly more difficult to install than the squishy Drop Stop that you simply introduce to the gap in your car. The reason is because of the Lebogner Gap Filler's velcro. We found the velcro did not outperform the neoprene when it came to keeping your gap-stopping solution in place while moving the chair.

Design Quality 3 Stars

At first glance, the Lebogner Gap Filler might be thought to be superior in terms of design quality due to its PU leather construction. However, in our Drop Stop review process, we found that it actually degraded faster than the high quality neoprene the Drop Stop is composed of. The Lebogner Gap Filler looks nice while it functions, but it tears apart faster than we would have guessed.

OxGord Auto Caddy Slit Pocket Gap Organizer

Whereas the Drop Stop and Lebogner seem to be competing for the name-brand position in the market, the OxGord Auto Caddy Slit Pocket Gap Organizer aims to provide the economical solution.

This version of the gap caddy is composed of ABS, the same material that many 3D printers print in and what is used to compose those classic LEGO bricks. It can fit any gap up to two inches, and it does fine as far as our Drop Stop tests were concerned.

However, this product is difficult to find in stock so any benefit its economical approach has to be thrown out the window. If you can find this for cheap, it may be your option. Otherwise, there are better drop caddies out there.

Ease of Use 4 Stars

This is a breeze to use like the rest, but has to be wrestled more than the Drop Stop to get it into position.

Design Quality 3 Stars

We were not impressed by the feel and flexibility of the ABS.

LeeQueen Car Pocket Organizer

Just when we thought no drop caddy in our Drop Stop review could compete with the titular Drop Stop itself, we found the LeeQueen Car Pocket Organizer. This device looks like a two pack of handsome leather wallets. It fits in nearly any car.

Basically, the LeeQueen Car Pocket Organizer provides everything the Drop Stop does, but without the bonus items. In addition, it looks like a high end item thanks to its quality. On the other hand, it relies on velcro, which makes it a bit more difficult to install.

However, the real issue is how difficult this item is to find nowadays. If you can find a good condition LeeQueen Car Pocket Organizer, for less than the Drop Stop, then you've really found a deal. Otherwise, this item cannot justify its secondhand price.

Ease of Use 4 Stars

The LeeQueen Car Pocket Organizer is fairly easy to use despite its velcro.

Design Quality 3 Stars

The design quality is the best part of the LeeQueen Car Pocket Organizer.

Conclusion

When it comes to stopping loose objects from falling into those annoying and dangerous gaps in your car, you have to trust the experts. The experts in this case are the investors on Shark Tank. No drop caddy performed better than the Drop Stop during the Drop Stop review process.

You may be able to find deals on other products that justify paying for products that are inferior to the drop stop, but why bother when a two pack of Drop Stops are only about $$? When it comes to reclaiming change and fries from the black hole of your car's gaps, the Drop Stop is the way to go.
