Is the Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote from Amazon a Homerun?

A few weeks back I saw the new Amazon Fire Tv Stick with Voice Remote and it got me thinking that it was time for me to update my hardware. I’ve had a Roku 2 XD for 4 years and it was beginning to show its age. I do have a Smart TV that has all of the built in streaming options but I find that it’s too slow and sometimes just locks up during loads, so I don’t even use it. The price of the new Amazon Fire Tv stick is really convinced me that I should go for it. At $49.99 it seemed like a great deal. I’m not willing to spend the money to buy some of the more high-end streaming devices such as the new Apple TV ($149) or the Amazon Fire TV ($84.99). I did some research and decided that I was going to give the Amazon Fire Stick with Voice Remote a chance. This is what I found out.

What is the Amazon Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote?

You can stream TV with the new Amazon Fire TV Stick. How does it differ from the old Fire TV Stick? It’s almost identical but it now includes a microphone on the remote so that you can use voice assist to help you find what you’re looking for. With the built in mic you can instantly search for specific shows and movies, or maybe just something that features a particular actor or actress. Want to look for movies that have ninjas in it? Say the word and you’ll have all of the kung-fu you can handle! The best part is there is no more typing with your remote.

And since the new Fire TV Stick is using voice assist you can bet that Amazon is trying to have a tie-in with it’s Echo. In case you’re not familiar the Amazon Echo it is a wireless speaker that uses a voice assistant called Alexa that is designed to interact with you. Think of it as a talking computer (check out the link at the bottom of the page to see a past review for the Echo). And now you can use Alexa with the new Amazon Fire Stick voice remote. Use Alexa on your remote to answer questions, check the weather, or even play music from your Amazon music collection.

The new Amazon device is very compact and easy to use. The Amazon Fire TV Stick plugs into your Tv’s HDMI port and has a power adapter that gets plugged in (your Tv’s HDMI port does not supply enough power to support the Fire Stick). After that just hook it up to your Wi-Fi and get ready to stream movies, music, photos, and more.

Things to Consider Before Purchasing the Amazon Fire TV Stick

Here are the main pro’s for the Amazon Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote:

  • There’s virtually no risk: at $50 this is worth the money. It’s as good or better than other similar devices.
  • Are you an Amazon Prime member? Then access Ad-free Prime music, Prime video, Amazon original programming, and access photos stored in your Amazon Cloud Drive.
  • The voice assist means you never have to painstakingly type in a title to search ever again. This alone has made this a worthwhile purchase for me.

Where to Buy the Amazon Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote

The Amazon Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote can be found on the Official Amazon website.  The original Fire TV Stick sells for $39.99, but this Amazon TV Stick sells for just $49.99. Amazon offers free shipping on orders over $35, and you have the option of purchasing the 2-year Protection Plan for an additional $5.99.

The Final Verdict on the Amazon Fire TV Stick

Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote

I think that Amazon continues to knock it out of the park. I do have a Prime membership but I only ever used it for the free 2 day shipping. Now I have access to all of the Prime Movies and Amazon programming right on my television, which is great. And like I stated before, the price is the best part. For $50 you can get the Fire Tv Stick delivered to your door with free shipping. Not only do you get the best of what any other streaming device offers, but you get the convenience of the voice assist with it. I love being able to tell my TV what I want to watch. I know that other devices offer this feature, but not at the same price as the Amazon TV Stick. This device is definitely worth having.
